Manchester United hire Amorim as coach

Ruben Amorim has been named as the new head coach of Manchester United.
The 39-year-old from Portugal, set to join Old Trafford from Sporting in Lisbon on 11 November, has finalized a contract until June 2027.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, the ex-United forward, will continue managing the team for their next three matches.
Amorim’s appointment marks the sixth permanent manager at United since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 after 26 years in charge.
The club said, “Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football.”
Sporting confirmed earlier this week that United had agreed to pay 10 million euros (£8.3 million) to activate a release clause in Amorim’s contract.
After the international break, Amorim’s first game at Manchester United will be on 24 November against newly promoted Ipswich.
On November 28, he will play his first home game in the Europa League against the Norwegian team Bodo/Glimt before playing Everton the following weekend in the Premier League.
The coaching staff for Amorim at Manchester United will be disclosed later.
Despite Sporting’s defeat to rivals Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup on 3 August, Amorim has steered the team through an unbeaten run of 14 matches.
Amorim is expected to be on the sidelines tonight as Sporting welcomes Estrela for a league game.
The upcoming schedule includes a Champions League match against Manchester City, a league game against Braga, and a break for Nations League fixtures.
