Salah to lead Egypt at the World Cup

Mohamed Salah is expected to captain the Egypt national football team at this summer’s FIFA World Cup after being included in the country’s provisional 27-man squad.

After a triumphant nine-year journey with Liverpool FC, the 33-year-old forward prepares for his farewell season, boasting an impressive 67 goals in 115 appearances for Egypt.

Joining the squad are Omar Marmoush of Manchester City and rising star Hamza Abdelkarim, the 18-year-old talent making waves at FC Barcelona Juvenil A.

In a surprising move, Mostafa Mohamed of FC Nantes has been left out of the squad.

Head coach Hossam Hassan will make his final cut after Egypt’s friendly against Russia in Cairo on May 28, narrowing the squad to meet FIFA’s 26-player limit.

Egypt will test its mettle against Brazil in a high-profile friendly in Cleveland on June 6, sharpening their edge for the World Cup.

Placed in Group G, Egypt will kick off their campaign against Belgium on June 15, then battle New Zealand on June 22 and Iran on June 27.

This year’s expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup will unfold across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, spanning from June 11 to July 19.
