Ghana Premier League clubs are not profiting from new TV broadcasts – Nana Oduro Sarfo

According to Nana Oduro Sarfo of the GFA Executive Council, Premier League clubs in Ghana are not receiving financial compensation for the television broadcasts.
After the 2023/24 season, the GFA took a firm stand by terminating their contract with StarTimes, the previous broadcaster. This action was a result of StarTimes’ violation of their contractual obligations.
A consortium of local TV stations is broadcasting the Ghana Premier League. These include Metro TV, NET2 TV, AFA Sports, Original TV, and Globe TV.
However, Sarfo disclosed that more than the income generated from these broadcasts is needed to support the clubs financially.
The GFA has organized a meeting to discuss how to increase revenue and support struggling clubs.
“Ghana Premier League clubs receive no financial gains from the current league TV broadcasts. There is an EXCO meeting scheduled for Tuesday to explore possible financial solutions for clubs,” he told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.
Sports enthusiasts and analysts have raised concerns about the subpar television coverage, which they believe is reducing the matches’ appeal to viewers.
