“We’re here to give our best and make Ghanaians proud” — Roger De Sá

Roger De Sá, assistant coach of the Black Stars, believes the team’s refreshed technical staff is on a mission to reignite passion and pride among fans as the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches.

The technical overhaul came after Otto Addo stepped down in March, following back-to-back friendly losses to Austria and Germany. In his place, seasoned tactician Carlos Queiroz was brought in to steer Ghana toward World Cup glory.

Ghana has a formidable challenge ahead, drawn into Group L with England, Croatia, and Panama at a tournament set to unfold across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

On the Beyond The Whistle podcast, De Sá emphasized that the coaching staff’s top goal is to forge a united squad and prepare the players both mentally and physically for the battles ahead.

“We are here to give our best and make Ghanaians proud. If Carlos delivers what he is capable of, there is nobody better than him,” the South African coach said.

“We will approach each challenge step by step. If the players perform to their full potential, we have a genuine chance of progressing,” he added.

As part of their preparations, the Black Stars will face Mexico on May 22 in an international friendly before taking on Wales on June 2.

Ghana’s World Cup journey kicks off against Panama at BMO Field on June 17, continues with a showdown against England at Boston Stadium on June 23, and wraps up the group stage versus Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field on June 27.

After early exits in the 2014 and 2022 World Cups, the Black Stars are determined to stage a comeback and reclaim their place among football’s elite in 2026.
