The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced the re-appointment of Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars.
The GFA confirmed the agreement on Wednesday, September 2, announcing that the seasoned Portuguese tactician will steer Ghana into an exciting new chapter of the national team’s international journey.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for his appointment as Head Coach of the Black Stars for the next phase of the team’s programme,” the Association said in a statement.
Queiroz’s previous mandate, which saw him guide Ghana through the recently concluded 2026 FIFA World Cup, ended several weeks ago, casting doubt over his future with the national team.
After in-depth discussions between the GFA, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Portuguese coach, all sides agreed that Queiroz to continue at the helm with a renewed mandate.
His new tenure will officially kick off with the upcoming international window, as Ghana shifts its focus to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The GFA highlighted Queiroz’s vast international experience, tactical know-how, and deep understanding of the Black Stars as decisive reasons for his retention.
Now, the Portuguese coach will set his sights on readying the team for their next international challenges, as Ghana aims to turn the page after its Round of 32 exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz will also be charged with leading the four-time African champions back to the Africa Cup of Nations, after Ghana missed out on the last edition of the prestigious tournament.
