D.C. United’s struggles continued Saturday night, as their winless streak grew to four matches after falling 3-1 to Charlotte FC.
Rookie Will Cleary celebrated his first Major League Soccer goal, joining David Schnegg and Pep Biel on the scoresheet as Charlotte’s spirited second-half surge sealed all three points.
D.C. United arrived determined to snap their slump and even held a 1-0 lead deep into the match, but Charlotte flipped the script with a stunning three-goal burst in just 13 minutes.
The hosts pulled level in the 64th minute through Schnegg, who reacted quickly to finish the rebound after Morrison Agyemang’s header was kept out.
Just two minutes later, Charlotte completed the turnaround. Biel delivered a corner toward the near post, where Cleary rose to head home in the 66th minute, giving his side a 2-1 lead and registering his first MLS goal.
Charlotte kept up the relentless pressure and all but sealed the victory in the 77th minute, as Biel struck to make it 3-1.
Biel proved instrumental, tallying both a goal and an assist, while goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina’s three crucial saves helped Charlotte safeguard their lead.
The result improved Charlotte FC’s record to 9-7-5, while D.C. United dropped to 5-7-9 and remain without a victory in their last four matches.
