Kwesi Appiah, the Sudanese head coach, expressed his delight at how his team’s victory over Ghana in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers boosted the spirits of the Sudanese people.
The Falcons of Jediane emerged victorious on Tuesday afternoon in Benghazi, Libya, during round four of the series at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
In his post-match comments, Appiah recognized Ghana’s unfortunate situation but highlighted his enthusiasm for bringing happiness to the people of war-torn Sudan.
“It’s unfortunate for Ghana. Ghana has a good team, but it’s unfortunate that only one of us can go through it,” Appiah said.
“I’m happy we’ve been able to put a smile on Sudanese faces.”
Following this loss, Ghana finds themselves in third position in Group F, with a mere two points from four matches, raising concerns about their AFCON qualification for the first time in 20 years.
The Black Stars will play their last two qualifying matches against Niger and Angola during the November international break.
