Ghana faces Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, and Somalia in AFCON 2027 qualifiers

Ghana has been drawn into Group C for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, along with Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, and Somalia.

The draw was held on Tuesday at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo, where teams from across Africa learned their qualification groups.

Ghana was drawn from Pot 2 and could have faced top teams like Morocco, Senegal, or Nigeria. Instead, the Black Stars will compete in a tough group with former champions Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, and Somalia.

CAF will use its usual qualification format, dividing 48 nations into 12 groups of four. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the finals. The 2027 AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, the first time East Africa has jointly hosted the tournament in recent years.

The Black Stars are hoping for a better result this time after failing to qualify for the last tournament in Morocco. Ghana finished last in their previous group, behind Angola, Sudan, and Niger.

CAF has shortened the qualification schedule due to the limited time before the finals, which will run from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

The first two matchdays will be held between September 21 and October 6, 2026. Matchdays three and four are set for November 9 to 17, 2026, and the final qualifiers will take place from March 22 to 30, 2027.
