Queiroz’s Ghana deal may be extended post-World Cup, Sports Minister hints

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has suggested that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz might get a contract extension after Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

The 73-year-old Portuguese coach took over in April after Otto Addo left. Since then, he has led Ghana to a win against Panama and a draw with England in their first two Group L games.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Adams said more Ghanaians want Queiroz to stay as coach, but any decision will be made after the World Cup.

“It’s something we will definitely consider. Even before the ministry or the FA spoke about it, many Ghanaians were already asking for him to stay,” Adams said.

“But let’s finish this project first. After the World Cup, we will review everyone’s future.”

The Black Stars are now second in Group L with four points. They will play Croatia on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field, and a spot in the Round of 32 is still up for grabs.
