Senegal stayed in the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after beating Iraq 5-0 in their last Group I match on Friday. Iraq played most of the game with 10 men.
Senegal needed a win to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive. They took charge early, especially after Iraq went down to 10 men in the 10th minute when Rebin Sulaka was sent off.
Habib Diarra scored the first goal in the fourth minute. In the second half, Ismaila Sarr, Pape Gueye—who scored twice—and Iliman Ndiaye added more goals to seal the win.
This win means Senegal still has a chance to reach the Round of 32, but their qualification now depends on other results and the rankings of the best third-placed teams.
For Iraq, this heavy loss ended their World Cup run. The Lions of Mesopotamia leave the tournament without earning a point.
