Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has finally stepped back onto the pitch, ending an agonizing eight-month wait on the sidelines due to injury.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder returned to action on Saturday, August 29, 2026, coming on as a second-half substitute in Spurs’ Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kudus had not played a competitive match since January 4, when a severe quadriceps injury against Sunderland halted his momentum. An unexpected setback in April forced him into surgery, stretching his road to recovery even further.
The injury sidelined the 26-year-old for a grueling 237 days, causing him to miss 25 crucial matches for Tottenham. His absence was felt even more deeply as he missed the chance to represent Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Kudus began solo training sessions in early August, gradually working his way back into full team drills as he neared the end of his rehabilitation.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi had indicated ahead of Saturday’s match that the Ghanaian would be included in the squad and could make his return from the bench.
His return is a much-needed lift for both Tottenham and the Black Stars, as Kudus now sets his sights on regaining his match fitness and rediscovering his sharp edge after such a long layoff.
The former Ajax and West Ham United standout is eager to leave his injury woes in the past and reclaim his role as a driving force in De Zerbi’s squad as the season unfolds.
Yet Kudus’ long-awaited return was overshadowed by a tough afternoon for Tottenham, as a defeat to Newcastle handed Spurs their second straight loss to start the Premier League season.
