After Ghana was knocked out in the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante shared his thoughts on his journey and what it meant to play for his country at the highest level.
The Coventry City striker started by saying how grateful he is for how far he has come.
First of all, I am grateful. While I had big plans for the 2025/26 season and the World Cup, there were moments when I was so focused that I had to step back and appreciate what the Lord has done to bring me here.
“To compete at the pinnacle of world football has always been my intention—not to ‘sneak in,’ not to ‘just participate,’ or to be idle, but to lead, fight and really do something worth beholding.”
Thomas-Asante was born in England but chose to play for Ghana because of his family roots. During the tournament, he stood out for his energy, speed, and hard work.
He started in the lower leagues of English football, helped Coventry City get promoted to the Premier League, and then played at the FIFA World Cup. His journey shows real perseverance, resilience, and determination.
As the Black Stars prepare for future tournaments, Thomas-Asante’s words show the faith, pride, and ambition that push him forward and inspire Ghana’s quest for international success.
