Benjamin Asare says he is motivated by criticism as he prepares for the 2026 World Cup

Benjamin Asare says criticism and outside opinions do not distract him as he prepares for what could be the biggest moment of his career with the Black Stars.

The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, currently Ghana’s first-choice shot-stopper ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, acknowledged that scrutiny is part of competing at the highest level.

Speaking to 3Sports, Asare explained that he remains focused on his development despite doubts from some supporters who believe he may struggle against top opponents at the World Cup, where Ghana will face the Panama national football team, England national football team, and Croatia national football team in the group stage.

“People will always have their opinions. Once you get to this level, there will always be criticism and plenty of things said about you,” he stated.

The goalkeeper also noted that even the world’s top goalkeepers concede goals and face criticism from fans and pundits.

“By God’s grace I’ve reached this level, but even the best goalkeepers in the world concede goals against top players. So naturally, I will also face challenges as I continue to grow,” Asare explained.

He added that the criticism serves as motivation rather than discouragement.

“It doesn’t affect me negatively. Instead, it pushes me to work even harder because not everyone gets the opportunity to reach this stage,” he said.
