D.C. United lost 1-0 to the New England Revolution in an MLS match on Saturday night in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Alhassan Yusuf scored the only goal in the 35th minute, keeping the Revolution’s perfect home record intact. Goalkeeper Matt Turner made five saves for his second straight shutout. New England has now won two in a row at home, outscoring opponents 10-1 in those games.
Turner made an important save in stoppage time, coming off his line to block João Peglow’s close-range shot.
With this win, the Revolution (3-3-0, 9 points) moved ahead of D.C. United (2-4-1, 7 points) in the Eastern Conference. D.C. United has now lost two games in a row and has not scored in its last three matches.
Sean Johnson made three saves for D.C. United, who played without top scorer Tai Baribo because of a thigh injury. Baribo has scored three of the team’s four goals this season, which is the lowest total in MLS.
This loss continued D.C. United’s tough run in Foxborough, where they have only one win in 17 games since 2013.
New England went ahead after a good team move with Will Sands, Carles Gil, Dor Turgeman, and Yusuf, who scored from 15 yards out.
D.C. United had early chances, with Matti Peltola hitting the post and Aaron Herrera missing wide. They played better after halftime and outshot New England 17-11, but only five shots were on target.
Johnson’s best save came in the 81st minute when he tipped over a header from Turgeman after a free kick by Griffin Yow.
