Ghana’s Black Satellites have been eliminated from the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship after playing out a goalless draw with Togo in their final Group B match at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Black Satellites needed a win to reach the semi-finals and delivered one of their strongest performances of the tournament. Maxwell Konadu’s team dominated possession, created clear scoring chances, and had a potential opening goal disallowed.
Despite controlling the match, Ghana could not score and settled for a 0-0 draw, ending their chances of reaching the knockout stage.
The Black Satellites finished third in Group B with two points from three matches. They began with a 4-2 loss to Nigeria, followed by a 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso and a 0-0 draw against Togo.
Although Ghana exited at the group stage, the tournament offered valuable experience for the young squad. The Black Satellites demonstrated resilience, attacking intent, and determination while competing against top youth teams in the WAFU B region.
Head coach Maxwell Konadu used the championship to assess several players in a competitive setting. Many squad members gained valuable international experience for future competitions.
As hosts, Ghana is already qualified for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. The WAFU B U-20 Championship served as a key part of the team’s preparations, providing the technical staff with valuable insights for next year’s tournament.
