Scotland secured their first FIFA World Cup victory in 28 years with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Haiti in a key Group C encounter at Gillette Stadium.
The Scots delivered a disciplined and composed performance, with Aston Villa captain John McGinn scoring the game’s only goal in the 28th minute to hand Steve Clarke’s side a priceless three points.
Haiti responded with greater urgency after the interval and pushed for an equaliser, but Scotland’s defence stood firm to preserve their lead and seal a memorable victory.
The result marks Scotland’s first World Cup win since the 1998 tournament. Coincidentally, the Tartan Army were grouped with Brazil and Morocco on that occasion—two nations they have once again been drawn against at the 2026 World Cup.
The victory also lifts Scotland to the summit of Group C following the 1-1 draw between Brazil and Morocco in the group’s other fixture.
Scotland will now shift their focus to a highly anticipated showdown against Morocco on June 19 as they look to boost their chances of progressing to the knockout rounds.
Meanwhile, Haiti will seek to recover from the opening defeat when they face five-time world champions Brazil on June 20 in their next group-stage match.
