Asamoah Gyan is confident that Ghana’s national football team can leave a lasting mark at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to unfold across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Ghana, set for their fifth appearance at the tournament, have been placed in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
In an interview with 3Sports, Gyan, now Brand Ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and Colts football, expressed his upbeat outlook for the squad’s chances, even as he acknowledged lingering questions about their experience.
“We have talented players and exciting young prospects coming through. The experience side is a little uncertain, but as someone who has been through it before, we will continue to support and encourage the team,” he said.
The Black Stars are sharpening their skills in Cardiff as they gear up for a friendly clash with Wales next month. Thirteen players have already joined the camp, including Ernest Nuamah, Brandon Thomas-Asante, and Jordan Ayew.
Monday saw the squad in action at Dragon Park, with the rest of the provisional 28-man roster set to arrive and complete the team later today.
Ghana’s World Cup journey kicks off against Panama at BMO Field on June 17, followed by a showdown with England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. The group stage wraps up with a decisive match against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field on June 27.
After early exits in the 2014 and 2022 World Cups, Ghana is eager to break its decade-long drought and return to the knockout rounds.
