World Cup 2026: Jordan Ayew says Black Stars can compete at the top level

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has hailed Ghana’s impressive start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying the team has shown it can compete with the best on football’s biggest stage.

Ayew made the remarks during a visit by a high-profile Ghanaian delegation to the team’s training camp in Rhode Island on Thursday.

The Black Stars opened their Group L campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama, then battled to a disciplined goalless draw against England. They have four points after two matches.

Speaking to the delegation, Ayew praised the squad’s performances, discipline, and commitment.

“We’ve shown that we’re capable of performing at the highest level,” the Ghana captain said.

The delegation included Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Smith, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and businessman Ibrahim Mahama.

Ghana will wrap up its Group L campaign against Croatia on Saturday, June 27, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, with a place in the Round of 32 within reach.

The Black Stars have relocated from Rhode Island to Philadelphia to intensify preparations for the decisive encounter.
