World Aquatics denies Ghana’s swimming stabilization committee request

World Aquatics has turned down a request from Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the National Sports Authority to set up a Stabilization Committee for the Ghana Swimming Association.

The revelation was made by Sports Minister Kofi Adams on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, amid continuing concerns over the governance of swimming in Ghana.

According to the minister, the proposal was aimed at resolving administrative issues and stabilizing the association. However, World Aquatics rejected the request, maintaining that the matter must be handled in accordance with the federation’s existing rules and governance framework.

This decision could disrupt local authorities’ ambitions to overhaul swimming administration in Ghana just as the nation prepares for major international competitions.

In recent months, the Ghana Swimming Association has been mired in governance disputes, prompting louder demands from stakeholders for decisive intervention and meaningful reform.

Authorities have yet to outline their next course of action following World Aquatics’ decision.
