Players ready to give everything for the Black Stars – Carlos Queiroz

Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz radiates optimism about Ghana’s chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, unveiling his final squad and announcing that an extra goalkeeper will join the journey as backup.

Ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against Wales, the seasoned Portuguese coach shared that the squad selection was shaped by thorough scouting, deep analysis, and close collaboration with players and their clubs.

While Queiroz named a 26-man squad for the tournament, he also revealed that a fourth goalkeeper will stay with the team, ready to step in throughout the campaign across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“The goalkeeping position is extremely important in a short tournament,” Queiroz said. “If an unforeseen situation arises, we need someone who is fully prepared to step in and compete immediately.”

The Black Stars coach also spoke about the absence of defender Alexander Djiku, who was sidelined by an injury sustained in a cup final. Though he called the setback unfortunate, Queiroz voiced strong faith in Derrick Luckassen, who now steps up to fill the gap. When the opportunity came, and I am confident he will make a valuable contribution to the national team,” he stated.

Queiroz also acknowledged the hurdles faced during preparations, noting that several players arrived late to camp due to club duties and the need for recovery after their domestic seasons.

Despite the race against time, the former Real Madrid and Portugal manager stressed that Ghana’s success at the World Cup will depend more on teamwork and unity than on individual brilliance.

Addressing supporters, Queiroz urged all Ghanaians to rally behind the team, assuring them that the players are wholeheartedly dedicated to representing the nation with pride.

“These players are ready to give everything for Ghana,” he said. “We will compete with determination, a winning mentality, and the desire to make the country proud.”
