Zdravko Logarušić, head coach of Nations FC, said it remains tough to find prolific goalscorers in African football. He explained that teams across the continent are struggling to attract attackers who can score 15 to 20 goals each season.
He made these comments after his team narrowly lost to FC Diarra in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round in Mali.
The Croatian coach criticized the lack of strong strikers in African football as Nations FC prepare for the important return match this weekend in Ghana.
He said the struggle to score goals is not only an issue for the Ghana FA Cup champions, but also a wider problem for clubs throughout Africa.
“Finding a goalscorer in Africa is very difficult, even at club level. Every one of us is looking for someone who can get 15 to 20 goals a season,” he said, as quoted by 3Sports.
Logarušić’s comments show how important it is for clubs to have a reliable striker, especially for teams playing in European competitions where good finishing can decide whether they advance or go out.
Playing at home, Nations FC will aim to improve their performance and overcome the one-goal deficit to keep their continental hopes alive.
The second leg will take place in Ghana on Sunday, September 13. The title-holders need a win to secure a place in the next round.
Nations FC are competing in Africa’s second-tier club tournament for the first time after winning the 2025/26 MTN FA Cup.
If Nations FC beat FC Diarra, they will move on to the second preliminary round to face either AS Zam from Niger or ASKO de Kara from Burkina Faso.
