Ghana international Inaki Williams bids farewell to the Black Stars with pride and peace, confident he poured his soul into every match during his four-year journey with the national team.
The Athletic Bilbao captain announced his retirement from international football on Friday morning, bringing an emotional close to his remarkable Ghana adventure.
In 2022, Williams made the heartfelt decision to switch his international allegiance from Spain to Ghana, honoring his parents’ homeland. He proudly donned the Black Stars jersey 28 times, scoring two goals.
Following his nationality switch, Williams debuted for Ghana in June 2022 and quickly earned a spot in the squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
He continued to shine for Ghana at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire and secured his place in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Williams has drawn the curtain on his international career, reflecting fondly on his time with the national side and affirming he has no regrets about the dedication he showed for Ghana.
“I feel it is the right moment for me to bring my chapter with the Ghana national team to a close. “I leave happy, proud and with the peace of mind of knowing that I gave everything every time I wore this shirt,” he posted on X, formerly Twitter.
With this decision, Williams closes a chapter marked by reconnecting with his Ghanaian roots and making proud appearances for the Black Stars at three major international tournaments.
The 32-year-old retires with pride in his contribution to the national team and the chance to wear the Ghana shirt, even though he is done with international football.
Now, he returns his focus to Athletic Bilbao, where he remains captain and a central figure for the Spanish club.
