Jordan Ayew urges readiness for tough Group L challenge at 2026 World Cup

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has urged Ghana to seize the moment at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that the team must showcase its true talent and prove they are ready for the battles ahead.

The Black Stars are set to make their fifth appearance at football’s biggest tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

In their build-up to the tournament, the Black Stars drew 1-1 with Wales at Cardiff City Stadium, then set off for the United States to sharpen their skills in the final stretch of training.

Ayew told GFA Media that confidence, determination, and resilience will be the keys as Ghana aims to leave a lasting mark on the world stage.

“We need to prove ourselves and show that we have the quality to compete. We have to be fully prepared for what lies ahead,” Ayew said.

“We know it won’t be easy, but we are ready for the challenge. I’m aware that many people doubt our chances, and that’s perfectly fine because it gives us extra motivation,” he added.

Ghana will begin its Group L campaign against Panama at BMO Field on June 17 before facing England at Gillette Stadium on June 23. The Black Stars will conclude their group-stage matches against Croatia on June 27.

The four-time African champions are determined to break their group-stage barrier for the first time since their unforgettable quarter-final journey at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, after early departures in 2014 and 2022.
