The Senegalese Football Federation has been fined $615,000 by the Confederation of African Football. This penalty is due to misconduct from players, technical staff, and fans at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The sanctions are a consequence of events that transpired during the final match against Morocco, the host nation, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Morocco was given a penalty, prompting Senegal’s players to leave the field for roughly 17 minutes in protest. The Teranga Lions resumed the game and secured the title in extra time, thanks to captain Sadio Mané’s intervention. Brahim Diaz’s missed penalty, which triggered the protest, was followed by Pape Gueye’s winning goal.
After reviewing match officials’ reports, CAF imposed several fines on the Senegal Football Association: $300,000 for illegal supporter behavior, $300,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct by players and technical staff, and $15,000 for wrongdoing involving five players receiving cautions during the match.
CAF stated that the game was brought into disrepute by these actions, thereby violating the principles of fair play, loyalty, and integrity outlined in its Disciplinary Code.
An appeal against the ruling is anticipated from the Senegalese Football Federation soon.
