The GFA approved a constitutional change to extend the president’s term limit from two to three terms.
As required by the GFA Statutes (2019), Article 31(2), Congress meets yearly.
Delegates from all 124 congressional members gathered to discuss key issues at this yearly event.
A key agenda item involved extending the president’s term from two to three, a FIFA-approved change aligning with FIFA and CAF statutes.
During the Congress, the delegates approved extending the president’s term from two to three terms.
Regarding the president’s term extension, 114 of 123 delegates voted in favor, 6 voted against, and 3 abstained.
The constitutional amendment was approved because the 114 yes votes comprised 91.9% of the delegates, surpassing the GFA’s 75% requirement.
This GFA delegate decision is intended to bring greater stability and continuity to the leadership of Ghanaian football, enabling the president to carry out long-term development plans and strategies.
The proposed change would permit a president to serve 12 years, following international football, and may change the leadership in Ghanaian football.
The amendment’s impact could be felt by Kurt Okraku, who is currently GFA President.
