Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi has expressed support for Carlos Queiroz to continue as Ghana’s head coach, commending the Portuguese coach for his positive influence on the national team.
Queiroz, 73, was appointed in April on a short-term contract after Otto Addo’s departure and assumed leadership of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Although he guided Ghana through the tournament, uncertainty has persisted over his future, with speculation growing after a social media post appeared to suggest he had resigned.
Queiroz later refuted these reports in a widely circulated interview, stating he had not resigned and remains committed to the Black Stars.
Ati Zigi, who played in two World Cup matches under Queiroz, acknowledged uncertainty about the coach’s contract but believes Ghana would benefit from his continued leadership.
“I don’t know about his contract situation, but I feel he is a great coach, and I love how he brought positivity into the camp. If the leadership wants him to stay, it will be a good decision,” he told Sporty FM.
Ghana showed promising signs during the World Cup, opening their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw.
A 2-1 loss to Croatia in their final group match placed the Black Stars third in Group L, allowing them to advance to the Round of 32 as one of the top third-placed teams.
Ghana’s campaign ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia, as Jhon Arias scored the decisive goal to send Colombia to the Round of 16.
After the World Cup, Ghana now focuses on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Black Stars are in Group C with Ivory Coast, Somalia, and Rwanda, aiming to qualify and end their long wait for continental success.
