Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams stated that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 per month, refuting reports of a $100,000 monthly salary.
Queiroz was appointed Ghana’s head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Otto Addo’s dismissal in March. Although he signed a short-term contract with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the financial terms were not officially disclosed, leading to speculation about his salary.
In an interview with TV3, Adams clarified that the figures reported in the media were inaccurate.
“Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 that had been speculated,” said the Buem Member of Parliament.
Under Queiroz, the Black Stars reached the FIFA World Cup knockout stage for the first time since their 2010 run in South Africa.
Ghana began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Panama, followed by a goalless draw with England. A 2-1 loss to Croatia in their final Group L match placed the Black Stars third, securing a spot in the Round of 32 as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
Ghana’s World Cup run ended with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the first knockout round.
Despite the elimination, Queiroz’s leadership and tactical organisation have reportedly impressed both the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. The veteran coach is widely expected to sign a two-year contract extension.
The Black Stars will now focus on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they have been drawn in Group C with Côte d’Ivoire, Somalia, and The Gambia. The qualification campaign begins in September.
