Ghana ended the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Africa’s fifth-best team, finishing 24th overall after a promising run in the larger tournament.
The Black Stars made it to the knockout stage for the first time since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but lost 1-0 to Colombia in the Round of 32.
Led by head coach Carlos Queiroz, Ghana started the tournament with a tough 1-0 win over Panama and then drew 0-0 with England. Losses to Croatia and Colombia meant the Black Stars finished with one win, one draw, and two losses from four games.
Even though Ghana exited in the Round of 32, this was a clear improvement over recent World Cups, where they did not get past the group stage.
Finishing 24th also made the Black Stars the fifth-highest ranked African team at the tournament, showing the progress made under Queiroz since he took over in March 2026.
Now, the focus shifts to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where Ghana hopes to build on its World Cup success and keep improving under the Portuguese coach.
