Albion hires Hurzeler, 31 years old, as manager

Brighton has made a groundbreaking move by appointing 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler as their new manager. This makes him the youngest-ever full-time boss of a Premier League team, a significant milestone in the league’s history.

Hurzeler, who demonstrated his managerial prowess by leading St Pauli to the Bundesliga 2 title last season with an impressive record of 20 wins in 34 matches, has agreed to a contract until 2027 with Brighton.

Tony Bloom, the chairman of Brighton, claimed that his previous work with St Pauli made him the perfect candidate to succeed Roberto de Zerbi.

Brighton’s squad will begin pre-season preparations in July, with Hurzeler joining once he receives a work permit.

Bloom expressed confidence that his style of play aligns with the way we want a Brighton & Hove Albion team to play, and he believes our supporters will appreciate and enjoy it.

Ryan Mason, then 29, briefly served as Tottenham’s interim boss in 2021, making him the youngest coach ever to lead a Premier League team. However, Hurzeler has been the youngest full-time coach since the division’s establishment in 1992.

In addition, Hurzeler is younger than several senior Brighton players, including James Milner (38), Danny Welbeck (33), and Lewis Dunk (32).

The recently appointed Seagulls manager expressed excitement about joining an “extremely ambitious” team.

“Expressing genuine excitement, Hurzeler stated that he is thrilled to be part of the project due to the club’s remarkable past and visionary plans for the future.”

First-team coach Andrew Crofts and goalkeeping coach Jack Stern will remain in their positions, and Brighton says the rest of Hurzeler’s backroom staff will be confirmed: “in due course.”
