Porto target Ghana prospect Caleb Yirenkyi ahead of World Cup

Portuguese heavyweights FC Porto are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of highly rated Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi from FC Nordsjælland ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Reports indicate Porto are eager to finalize a move for the talented 20-year-old before the global tournament, having identified him as one of Europe’s most promising young midfielders.

The proposed transfer is believed to be worth over €20 million, although Nordsjælland reportedly demands a fee closer to €30 million before considering his departure.

Yirenkyi’s value has soared after an outstanding season in the Danish Superliga, where he emerged as one of the league’s top performers despite his age.

The versatile youngster was recently named Danish Superliga Young Player of the Year after producing a series of impressive displays across multiple positions.

While naturally a midfielder, Yirenkyi also excelled in central defense late in the season, demonstrating remarkable composure, adaptability, and tactical awareness.

His excellent campaign earned him Nordsjælland’s Player of the Season award, and he was also shortlisted for Danish Superliga Player of the Season and Player of the Month accolades.

The former Right to Dream Academy graduate made 29 appearances during the season, contributing key goals and assists while establishing himself as a key figure for the Danish outfit.

Porto’s interest further highlights the midfielder’s rapid rise and growing reputation across European football.

The Portuguese giants are keen to secure his signature before his market value rises if he can impress at the upcoming World Cup.

With several clubs also believed to be tracking his progress, Nordsjælland may face a significant challenge in retaining one of their brightest young prospects during the summer transfer window.
