Sampson backs Black Princesses ahead of Uganda showdown

Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says he is confident his team is ready for their important FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Uganda’s under-20 women’s team.

Ghana will play the first leg at Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, May 3, with kickoff at 15:30 GMT. Both teams are competing for a spot in the World Cup.

Sampson says the team has prepared well, highlighting their long training camp in Prampram. He believes this has helped the players work better together and get ready for the big match.

“Our preparation has been solid. We’ve spent ample time in camp, so there are no excuses. We’ve been anticipating this moment, and now it’s time to go out and perform,” he said.

The coach admitted Uganda will be a tough opponent, but said his team is focused on qualifying.

“At this stage, the opponent doesn’t matter. We want to reach the World Cup. Uganda will be highly motivated since they’ve never qualified, but it will come down to who shows more desire and executes better on the day,” he added.

Sampson also said that bringing in new players has made the team more competitive and improved their overall quality.

Even though key player Comfort Yeboah is unavailable due to club duties outside the FIFA window, Sampson remains confident in his squad.

“We would have liked to have her available, but that wasn’t possible. Still, we have enough quality in the team to go all out and get the result,” he said.

The Black Princesses hope to gain a strong lead in the first leg in Accra as they work toward qualification.
