Morocco reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a strong 3-0 win over co-hosts Canada. Azzedine Ounahi scored twice, and Soufiane Rahimi added a late goal.
Canada began the match well and almost scored early when Tanitoluwa Oluwaseyi controlled a pass in the box, but Morocco’s goalkeeper Bono made a solid save.
The Atlas Lions suffered. Morocco faced an early challenge when Ismael Saibari left the game with an injury, so coach Mohamed Ouahbi brought on Soufiane Rahimi sooner than expected. In the first half, Morocco broke the deadlock five minutes after the restart. Achraf Hakimi picked out Ounahi on the edge of the area, and the midfielder drilled a low shot into the bottom corner to put the North Africans ahead.
The goal shifted the momentum firmly. The goal gave Morocco the momentum. They controlled the game and allowed Canada very few chances. In the 82nd minute, Brahim Díaz squared the ball to Ounahi inside the penalty area. The midfielder kept his composure before smashing his second goal of the night into the top corner.
Rahimi almost scored a third goal soon after, but his strong header hit the crossbar. He kept pushing for another chance.
In stoppage time, Rahimi finished calmly to seal Morocco’s 3-0 win and highlight the team’s strong performance.
With this win, Morocco moves on to the quarter-finals, where they will play either Paraguay or France.
