Reports suggest Carlo Ancelotti is leaving Real Madrid to become the manager of the Brazilian men’s national team this summer.
Real Madrid’s double win in 2023/24 secured Ancelotti’s position until at least summer 2026. However, as numerous managers have learned—the Italian included—no manager can become complacent coaching at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Many sources reported Ancelotti’s impending departure this season, with their Champions League run ending in the quarterfinals. Brazil’s belief in securing the esteemed manager this summer strengthened after their Copa del Rey final defeat to Barcelona on Saturday.
According to MARCA, Ancelotti and the CBF have finalized an agreement. All that’s missing is the 65-year-old’s signature. Fabrizio Romano reports that Ancelotti’s salary is finalized; the former Italy assistant coach is set to be among the highest-paid national team managers globally.
ESPN reported that the CBF expects Ancelotti to arrive in Rio de Janeiro on May 26. That would be a day following Real Madrid’s season-ending La Liga match versus Real Sociedad.
Before his glorious exit, Ancelotti could potentially win another top-flight title. Only four points separate Madrid from league leaders Barcelona, with a crucial Clasico match against them looming next month.
If he departs in May, this summer’s expanded FIFA Club World Cup could be Ancelotti’s last with the team.
Madrid will kick off their campaign against Saudi giants Al Hilal on June 18. If the capital outfit fails to appoint Xabi Alonso as Ancelotti’s permanent replacement beforehand, former player-manager Santiago Solari might temporarily take over, according to rumors.
