Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that every Black Stars player selected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will receive an appearance fee of $100,000.
The amount is identical to the appearance fee paid to members of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, maintaining the compensation structure previously adopted for the senior national team.
According to the Minister, all players named in Ghana’s final World Cup squad will qualify for the payment by virtue of their selection, regardless of how many matches they feature in during the tournament.
This announcement arrives while the Black Stars intensify their preparations for the global stage, fueling rising excitement and hope among fans after Ghana’s triumphant qualification journey.
The news is set to ignite lively debates among fans, football insiders, and analysts about player pay and the financial stakes tied to Ghana’s World Cup adventure.
The appearance fee is part of the broader incentive package typically arranged ahead of major international tournaments.
Performance-related bonuses, including rewards for victories and progression through the competition’s various stages, are usually negotiated separately between players and the relevant authorities.
Ghana will be looking to improve on its 2022 World Cup showing, when the Black Stars exited at the group stage.
As one of Africa’s football powerhouses, Ghana dreams of eclipsing its legendary quarter-final run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. With the financial arrangements now clarified, attention is expected to turn fully to squad selection and final preparations as the Black Stars gear up to face some of the world’s top footballing nations.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
