Carlos Queiroz unveils ambitious vision: “Ghana will be a country of champions”

Carlos Queiroz signals lofty ambitions for the Black Stars, pledging to mold Ghana into “a nation of champions” ahead of 2026.

With the tournament drawing closer, the seasoned Portuguese tactician is expected to stamp his authority on the squad, placing emphasis not only on results but also on redefining the team’s mentality and overall identity.

Speaking at his unveiling, Queiroz made it clear that his objectives extend beyond winning games, underscoring the importance of instilling a winning culture within the Black Stars setup.

“Ghana will not only be a football nation but a country of champions,” he declared.

The 73-year-old brings vast experience, having previously worked with elite clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United, and having also managed national teams including Portugal and Iran.

His World Cup credentials further bolster confidence in his appointment, having guided the South Africa national football team to qualification for the 2002 tournament, led Portugal to the Round of 16 in 2010, and managed Iran at the 2014 and 2018 editions.

He has also held roles with the Egypt, Japan, Qatar, and Oman national football teams.

With preparations already underway, Queiroz is expected to focus on assembling a competitive, mentally resilient squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Ghana will begin its campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on England and Croatia in a challenging group stage.
