Nkawkaw-based Salvation Army Primary School secured a 2-0 victory over Kwabenya Atomic M/A Basic School on Saturday, April 25, to win the 2026 Milo U13 Champions League at the Essipong Stadium.
The Eastern Region champions struck late in both halves to seal a deserved triumph, becoming the third school from the region—after two-time winners Bepong Methodist Primary School—to lift the trophy.
Kwabenya Atomic M/A (KAMA) came close to opening the scoring midway through the first half, but a goal-bound effort was spectacularly cleared off the line.
Salvation Army eventually broke the deadlock just before halftime when striker Prince Yeboah beat the offside trap to head home from a free kick in the 20th minute.
After the break, KAMA pushed for an equaliser but were unable to break down a resolute Salvation Army side.
The victory was sealed late in the game when Felix Peprah chipped the goalkeeper with a well-timed through ball, confirming the title for Salvation Army in the seventh edition of the competition.
Salvation Army also swept the individual awards, with King Agbozo named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, while James K. Tawiah claimed the top scorer award after netting five goals in six matches. Midfielder Hassan Kamal was voted Best Player of the tournament.
Impressively, the team did not concede a single goal in regulation time throughout the competition.
Following the victory, headteacher Mark Mintah Dadzie called on local authorities to invest in sports infrastructure, highlighting the abundance of talent in Nkawkaw.
“We have a lot of talented players in the municipality, but we need a proper field to help develop them and support their future,” he told ESLtv.
In the bronze medal match, Denchemoasue Roman Catholic Primary School from the Western North Region defeated Wenchi Methodist Primary School 3-2 on penalties to secure third place after a tightly contested encounter.
