Italian club Como are considering signing Ghana international Jerome Opoku, following his strong performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Opoku, currently with Istanbul Basaksehir in Turkey, has attracted increased interest after a series of strong performances for both club and country.
The centre-back has been a standout for Ghana at the tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. His defensive performances have drawn interest from several European clubs.
Reports indicate that Como have made initial contact with Opoku’s representatives as the Serie A club seeks to strengthen its defense for next season.
Como are closely monitoring the Black Stars defender, having already held preliminary discussions with his representatives regarding a potential transfer.
Como reportedly view Opoku as an alternative if they are unable to sign Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah or if Jacobo Ramon departs amid increasing summer interest.
Opoku is also drawing interest from clubs in Spain and England. Both a Spanish team and a newly promoted Premier League club are reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the new season.
Opoku’s emergence has been a highlight for Ghana at the World Cup, as he has delivered composed and assured performances in central defense.
The centre-back missed Ghana’s final group-stage match against Croatia due to a minor injury but is expected to return for Saturday’s Round of 32 match against Colombia.
His performances have enhanced his reputation, and interest in him is expected to increase after the World Cup.
