Ghana’s Black Maidens earned a spot at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after beating Senegal 7-6 on penalties in the final qualifier at Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The Black Maidens showed resilience by bouncing back from an early setback and winning a tense shootout after the second leg finished 1-1, making it 2-2 on aggregate.
With the first leg in Dakar ending 1-1, both teams needed a win to qualify for the tournament in Morocco. Senegal scored after 10 minutes, putting early pressure on Ghana.
Ghana responded strongly and gradually took control. Coach Joe Nana Adarkwa’s team kept more possession and created several chances before scoring a well-earned equalizer just before halftime.
Captain Seidatu from Oaks FC finished off a good team move in the 44th minute, leveling the score at halftime and lifting the home crowd.
The second half was evenly matched, with Ghana pushing forward and Senegal looking dangerous on the counterattack. Both defenses stood firm, and the game ended without more goals in regular time.With the aggregate score at 2-2, the match went straight to penalties.

This win highlighted the Black Maidens’ determination and mental strength as they overcame challenges to secure their spot on the world stage.
Qualifying for the tournament is another major achievement for Ghana’s women’s youth football program and gives the Black Maidens a chance to play against the world’s best young players. U-17 Women’s World Cup will take place in Morocco from October 17 to November 7, with Ghana set to represent the continent following a strong qualifying campaign.
