Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC will face a tough challenge against DR Congo’s top team TP Mazembe in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
The draw took place at the CAF headquarters in Cairo on Thursday and matched the Tarkwa-based club with one of Africa’s most successful teams, making for a tough opening match.
Medeama will play the first leg at the Tarkwa and Aboso (TnA) Stadium, then travel to Kinshasa for the second and deciding match.
If Medeama beats TP Mazembe, they will play either Club Africain from Tunisia or Djoliba AC from Mali in the next round, hoping to reach the group stage of Africa’s top club competition.
The first-leg matches of the opening round are set for September 4 to 6, with the return games scheduled for September 11 to 13.
The second preliminary round will take place soon after, with first-leg matches from September 14 to 16 and return games between September 23 and 25.
After winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, Medeama earned their spot in the CAF Champions League. They hope to have another strong run in Africa, even though they face a tough opponent right away.
