Dreams FC have been ranked as Ghana’s top club in the latest Confederation of African Football (CAF) Club Rankings for the 2026/27 season, while Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are absent from the list.
The “Still Believe” side is ranked 32nd, reflecting their strong performances in recent CAF interclub competitions, especially their notable run in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Dreams FC’s progress on the continental stage marks a significant milestone, establishing them as one of Ghana’s leading representatives in African football. Their Confederation Cup campaign against top clubs earned valuable ranking points and improved Ghana’s standing in CAF competitions.
This achievement places them above Ghana’s most successful clubs, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, who did not appear in the latest CAF rankings.
The absence of Hearts and Kotoko highlights their recent challenges in continental competitions. Despite their strong histories, inconsistent domestic results and limited CAF participation have impacted their rankings.
Asante Kotoko remains Ghana’s most successful club in CAF competitions, with two CAF Champions League titles, while Hearts of Oak won the title in 2000. However, recent performances have not secured them a place among Africa’s top-ranked clubs.
Medeama SC is the only other Ghanaian club in the rankings, placed 54th after recent CAF appearances.
The latest rankings reflect a shift in Ghanaian club football, as emerging clubs like Dreams FC advance on the continental stage while traditional giants aim to regain their former status.
Across Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns lead with 73 points, followed by Al Ahly with 66 points. Espérance Sportive de Tunis, RS Berkane, and USM Alger round out the top five.
Dreams FC’s rise signals Ghana’s increasing competitiveness in CAF competitions. Their success encourages other clubs to strengthen squads, improve infrastructure, and pursue consistent participation in continental tournaments.
With Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko absent from the latest rankings, Dreams FC and Medeama SC now represent Ghana among Africa’s elite clubs.
