A five-member committee seeking Carlos Queiroz’s replacement is expected to recommend an interim coach to lead the Black Stars in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Somalia.
The Sports Ministry and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) set up the committee after Queiroz left last week. The group has until Friday, October 9, to make its recommendations.
3Sports reports that the panel will likely recommend a temporary coach for Ghana’s two November matches while it continues searching for a permanent head coach.
Both games will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium. The interim coach is expected to stay in charge until a permanent coach is chosen.
The committee’s mandate will likely be extended after Friday’s first report, giving them more time to find a permanent replacement.
Former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe leads the panel. Other members are former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah, former international Anthony Yeboah, Faisal Chibsah, and Agbesi Dzakpasu.
Queiroz left after Ghana had a tough start to their 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign. The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire and then gave up a two-goal lead in a 4-2 loss to The Gambia in Accra.
Ghana is at the bottom of Group C with no points from two matches. The new coach’s first job will be to rebuild confidence and keep their qualification hopes alive.
After missing the 2025 tournament in Morocco, the Black Stars are under growing pressure to make sure they do not miss another AFCON.
