The first draw of the 2026 FIFA World Cup was recorded on Tuesday night as co-hosts Canada were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Bosnia and Herzegovina at BMO Field.
In the 21st minute, Jovo Lukic stunned the home crowd with a clinical strike, giving Bosnia and Herzegovina the lead. The Dragons held firm, carrying their 1-0 advantage into halftime.
After the break, Canada ramped up the intensity, relentlessly pressing for an equalizer. Their efforts were rewarded in the 78th minute when substitute Cyle Larin stepped onto the pitch and fired home to level the score.
As the final minutes ticked away, both teams surged forward in search of a winner, but the deadlock held firm, leaving the tournament’s first match to end in a hard-fought draw.
Canada will now shift their focus to their next Group-stage fixture against Qatar on June 18 at BC Place, while Bosnia and Herzegovina will take on Switzerland on the same day at SoFi Stadium.
