Carlos Queiroz, Ghana’s new head coach, says his main goal is to succeed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The tournament will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, and will include 48 teams. Ghana has already secured one of Africa’s nine automatic spots.
Ghana’s team, the Black Stars, will play in Group L with England, Croatia, and Panama.
Ghana will start the tournament against Panama, then face England, and finish the group stage against Croatia.
At his introduction at the Alisa Hotel on Thursday, Queiroz said the World Cup is his top priority.
“At this moment, 99.9% of my focus is on achieving success at the World Cup,” he said, showing how urgent his mission is.
Queiroz has a lot of experience. He has coached top clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United, and managed national teams including Portugal and Iran.
He has also led teams at the World Cup, helping South Africa qualify in 2002, taking Portugal to the Round of 16 in 2010, and managing Iran in 2014 and 2018.
He has also coached the national teams of Egypt, Japan, Qatar, and Oman.
Preparations have already started, and Queiroz is expected to settle in quickly as he builds a strong squad for the 2026 World Cup.
