D.C. United battled to a 0-0 draw against Philadelphia Union on Saturday night at Subaru Park, despite the hosts dominating much of the contest.
Philadelphia led in most areas, creating plenty of chances and taking more shots than D.C. United. Still, they could not get past Sean Johnson, who was excellent in goal and stopped every shot on target.
The Union began the game strongly and kept up steady pressure in attack. Jesús Bueno nearly scored in the 12th minute when his long shot hit the post. Milan Iloski also made an impact, setting up several chances, including a corner that almost found Ezekiel Alladoh.
Philadelphia kept pressing as the first half went on. Bueno had another shot blocked, and a good play between Indiana Vassilev and Iloski set up Bruno Damiani, whose volley just missed. Even with all their chances, the Union reached halftime without a goal.
The second half was much the same, with Philadelphia keeping up the pressure. Iloski and Bueno stayed involved in the attack, helping the Union earn more shots and corners. Johnson kept making important saves to keep the game tied.
Even after bringing on substitutes, the home team could not score. Damiani almost found the net with a header that went just wide, and Iloski nearly scored from distance.
Andre Blake did not have much to do for most of the match, but he stayed focused and helped Philadelphia keep a clean sheet when needed.
