Rosalind Amoh Shares Thoughts on WAFCON Delay

Rosalind Amoh, chairperson of the Women’s Football Committee and a former member of the Black Queens Management Committee, expressed disappointment tinged with resignation at the news of the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Confederation of African Football has pushed the tournament to July 25 through August 16, 2026, citing unforeseen challenges as the reason.

Amoh revealed to Citi Sports that whispers of trouble had already been swirling earlier in the year.

“It comes as no surprise, even though it is disappointing,” she said. “There were speculations earlier in the year about Morocco’s readiness to host the competition, but CAF moved to debunk those claims at the time.”

CAF initially dismissed January reports suggesting that Morocco was reluctant to host the women’s tournament.

Amoh pointed out that major tournaments usually run like clockwork, with clear signs of readiness, so a delay at this point was unexpected. She also emphasized the far-reaching impact the rescheduling will have on all participating nations.

“The implications are huge because these tournaments are structured within everyone’s football calendar. Once the competition is rescheduled, it affects the timelines and preparations of all the teams involved.”

Preparations were underway for Ghana’s Black Queens for the tournament, originally slated to start this month. A revised preparation schedule and an extended wait now confront them, leading up to the July-August timeframe.
