Rumors are swirling that South Africa will step in as the new host for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, following comments from Deputy Minister of Sport, Peace Mabe.
The Minister stated that South Africa will host the tournament, scheduled for March 17 to April 3, 2026.
This development occurs even though Morocco was officially awarded the hosting rights and held the group stage draw there in January 2026, assigning teams to various Moroccan cities. The plans, in their current written form, have not changed yet.
It is important to note that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has not officially confirmed any alteration to the host nation.
Furthermore, Morocco has not officially stated that it has surrendered its hosting rights, and no formal communication has been issued by the Moroccan Football Federation.
The suspense continues, as the true host of the 2026 WAFCON remains a mystery until CAF breaks its silence. Teams and fans alike are eagerly awaiting the final word.
If South Africa is confirmed as host, it would mark a homecoming to familiar territory. The nation last hosted the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2000, 2004, and most recently in 2010.
