Asante Kotoko must overcome a challenge in the CAF Confederation Cup playoffs following a 1-0 loss to Wydad at Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Kotoko was dominant from the start, and they nearly scored in the first ten minutes but missed a good opportunity. The early chance proved expensive, with Wydad gaining control, making chances, and looking assured.
Mohammed Camara, Kotoko’s goalkeeper, made great saves in the first half, but Wydad’s pressure finally worked after halftime. Kotoko’s defense failed to clear a corner in the 47th minute, leading to Wydad scoring the first goal from close range.
Two minutes after that, things became even more difficult for Kotoko when Camara received a red card for a handball outside the penalty area, preventing a goal. Down to ten men, the Porcupine Warriors attempted a comeback, but Wydad’s dominance in possession and chance creation proved costly.
Kotoko, despite being a man down, played tough and did not concede more goals, although their offensive plays were not very effective.
Kotoko needs an exceptional performance in Casablanca to win and continue in the Confederation Cup.
