Francis Amuzu has earned his first call-up to the Black Stars squad ahead of the upcoming international friendly against the Mexico national football team later this month.
The Grêmio winger is included in Carlos Queiroz’s first squad since he became coach. Queiroz has chosen a mix of experienced players, young talents, and some returning faces.
Being selected is a big step for Amuzu after years of uncertainty about which country he would represent at the senior level.

Born in Ghana but raised in Belgium, the attacker previously represented Belgium at the Under-199 and Under-211 levels and was once considered for the senior national team.
In 2022, he declined the opportunity to switch allegiance to Ghana, stating that he preferred to remain with Belgium.
But in early 2023, reports said he started the process with FIFA to change his national team.
Between 2023 and 2024, the former RSC Anderlecht winger said he got a Ghanaian passport and started the switch. He explained he wanted to honor his father, who once played for Hearts of Oak.
In October 2025, while playing in Brazil, Amuzu reaffirmed his commitment to Ghana. He said his choice was about long-term goals, not just convenience.
By late 2025, FIFA had not officially confirmed his nationality switch, but his recent call-up suggests the process is now complete and he could soon make his debut.
Ghana will play Mexico in a friendly match on May 22, 2026.
