Jordan Ayew hints at big moments ahead for the Black Stars

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew is convinced Ghana is heading toward something remarkable and urges supporters to keep faith as the team grows and evolves.

Speaking to GFA Media, the experienced forward reflected on his journey with the national team, recalling memorable moments, and expressed his desire to help restore Ghana’s winning culture.

“The Black Stars have given me so much throughout my career. I’ve experienced many great moments, especially during my early years with the team. I want to experience those moments again, and the only way to do that is by winning. We need to start winning consistently,” Ayew said.

At 34, Ayew confessed that qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup reignited his passion, yet he remains certain that even greater triumphs await the team.

“I felt some of that excitement when we qualified for the World Cup, but I truly believe there is more to come. Something special is coming. If we continue working hard and pushing ourselves, we will be rewarded because the last few years have been difficult. It hasn’t been easy for us or for the fans.”

Ayew also spoke candidly about the criticism and abuse players endure during tough times, reminding fans that footballers are people too, with feelings and loved ones.

“When results don’t go well, people become frustrated and sometimes say hurtful things. But it’s important to remember that we are human. One day things may go well, and the next day they may not. Players have feelings and families, and sometimes people need to put themselves in our position.”

The Leicester City forward admitted that handling public scrutiny can be tough for many players and said he often guides his teammates in navigating outside opinions.

“That’s one of the things I tell the younger players. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and ultimately you have to decide whether to accept it or ignore it and stay focused on your job,” he added.

Ghana finds itself in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to face Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars kick off their journey against Panama on June 17, and Ayew is confident the team will rise to the occasion and make the nation proud.
