Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has eased concerns about Antoine Semenyo’s fitness after the striker sustained a late knock in Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Croatia in Philadelphia.
Following Saturday’s defeat, the Black Stars fell to third in Group L. Petar Sučić and Nikola Vlašić scored for Croatia, while Derrick Luckassen netted Ghana’s equaliser.
Late in the match, Semenyo went down in the Croatian penalty area and required treatment, but was able to continue until the final whistle.
After the match, Queiroz confirmed that the Bournemouth forward had only suffered a minor knock and dismissed concerns of a serious injury.
“No, it’s just a knock; he will be alright,” Queiroz told reporters.
Queiroz also acknowledged that defensive errors were costly in the defeat.
“Croatia scored two goals, two easy goals. Much too easy the way they scored. When you score one more goal than the opponent, you have the merit to win the game.
“Simple like that. It means we make one more mistake than the opponent, and when you make one more mistake than the opponent, that is it.”
Ghana will now focus on Saturday’s Round of 32 match against Colombia at Kansas City Stadium, with Semenyo expected to be available.
